Project Runway Models Season Designers

The models who will walk the runway to show off the creations of the Project Runway season six designers have been announced.

These models will also be featured in the new companion series models of the Runway, which is a 30-minute show that will air following Project Runway. This marks the first time that the models will appear in their own companion show.

All but two of the models call either New York or California home. The New York resides include Singapore native Celine Chua; New Orleans native Emarie Wiltz; Texas native Kayln Hemphill; Israel native Matar Cohen; and Valerie Roy, who is originally from New York.

Models from California include Ebony Jointer and Erika Macke, who are originally from the state. Also representing California will be Fatma Dabo of The Gambia; Katie Sticksel of Ohio; Kojii Helnwein of Ireland; Lisa Blades of Kentucky; katy perry of united states; Tanisha Harper of Japan; and Yosuzi Sylvester of Venezuela.

Another contestant, Vanessa Fitzgerald, is originally from New York but now resides in both New York and California.

Chicago native Erica Milde, who now lives in Wisconsin, is one of the non-New York or California models. The other is Tara Egan, a resident of Chicago.

The model who is paired with the winning design fashion of Project Runway will received a $25,000 cash prize. In addition, the model will be in a Marie Claire fashion spread.

Lifetime has revealed the identities of the models who will appear in Project Runway's sixth season and the show's new Models of the Runway companion series.

Models of the Runway will premiere Thursday, August 20 at 11PM ET/PT -- immediately following Project Runway's sixth-season debut in the 10PM ET/PT timeslot -- and give viewers a look at the competition through the eyes of the young women who were tasked with modeling each Project Runway designer's fashions for the show's judges.

In addition to getting to model the winning designer's clothing in their Marie Claire magazine photo spread, the model who finished the competition paired with Project Runway's sixth-season winner also won a $25,000 cash prize.

Berlin – If one had to think of at least one good reason to attend this latest Berlin fashion Week, it surely was to catch the Saturday, July 4, runway show by Kai Kuhne, a German wild child resident for over a decade in New York, who returned in triumph this weekend.

Even if nearly half the looks had already been seen in Kuhne's most recent Manhattan runway outing in February, this was a brilliantly fresh take on arty glamour, hard core style leavened with just the right dose of wit and wonder.

No wonder Kuhne got the biggest cheer of any show staged in Bebelsplatz, the tented show space that was the nerve center of the four-day Berlin season.

Opening with sleek, curvy mini jackets and delightfully well hung waxy raffia trench-dresses, Kuhne underlined what a snappy tailor he can be. From the concise incisions on the shoulders of cocktail dresses, to the pared down lapel-free boleros, this is a designer who understands when less can be so much more.

In a city whose architecture is all about hard edges and austerity, Kuhne's snappy metal finished dresses and wonderful silverized swing coat looked like they had found their true home.

The show featured some great accessories, like excellent suede court shoes given great pizzazz by their heels - culled from the chair legs of a classic Charles and Ray Eames chair.

Added to that was some beautiful jewelry courtesy of Patricia Von Musulin, and the season's best-styled show, with stylist Avena Gallagher injecting the right dose of contemporary dash and humor, featured some models wearing zombie-like contact lenses.

In Sao Paulo, the Show's the Thing

The second day of Sao Paulo Fashion Week, Monday, Jan. 19, consisted of more than a few designers employing whimsical, or in some cases, flashy stagings for their runway shows. The commercial modeling fashion week in Sao Paulo is Brazil's largest, with an investment of close to $3 million this season in the event production, according to show organizers. This translates into 12,000 visitors per day who are all hoping to see the new collections and be entertained.

Forum, designed by Tufi Duek, featured Patti Smith's powerful track from 1975, "Horses," a black and white video backdrop of galloping horses and a collection of dark, equestrian-inspired looks for a woman firmly rooted in the city. Many looks, from sequined cocktail dresses to a more conservative black tuxedo-inspired dress were layered over slick latex leggings, evoking chic to sexy in a single look. Tough leather studded vests alternated with slinky silk dresses for the boudoir. The lack of variation in the color palette - almost all black - made for a repetitive show, but no doubt a more commercially viable collection.

Do Estilista, designed by Marcelo Sommer, appeared to be in a sporty mood, judging by the stationary bicycles, treadmills and stairmaster set up on the runway before the show. They didn't go unused, either - the male advertisement models of the bunch eventually squeezed in a mini-workout after making the rounds on the runway. The clothes were not necessarily things you'd want to wear to the gym, though, unless that gym were a nightclub on a golf course. Flouncy toile-patterned tunic dresses with ruffled hems in electric blue looked more like something you'd want to sleep in as a nightgown, though the loudly patterned shirts added a nice pop to a pair of dark pants or a skirt. But this show was more about styling - i.e., "estilista" - than it was about innovative cuts or choice fabrics.

Alexandre Herchcovitch packed his crowd into one of the smallest venues at the Biennial space where the shows are held, but there was no need for any fancy flourishes on his runway - the clothes had enough to say on their own. For his Fall/Winter 2009 collection, Herchcovitch collaged together the masculine and the feminine, the closest that Herchcovitch has gotten to something that might be described as "ladylike" dressing. A sleeveless suit dress cut to reveal a multicolored silk skirt of ruffles in the back or black models harem cropped pants was paired with a slouchy sequined tunic. Reds, pinks and blues cast a soft rose-garden like glow on a collection that could have been the result of a raid on a Victorian attic.

Monique Lhuillier, Naeem Khan Decide Against February Runway Shows

Two more designers, Monique Lhuillier and Naeem Khan, have decided against staging runway shows at New York’s fashion week in February.

Eveningwear designer Ms. Lhuillier, who has staged shows for 500 to 600 retailers and press at the New York fashion week tent in Bryant Park for at least six years, will instead debut her Fall 2009 collection in a more intimate showroom setting, says Paul Wilmot, whose public-relations firm Paul Wilmot Communications, represents Ms. Lhuillier. Mr. Khan, whom Mr. Wilmot’s firm also represents, will also skip the tent next month in favor of an informal presentation.

The designers join a host of labels that recently announced that they would do presentations instead of runway advertisement model shows in February in order to save money or cut costs during the recession. Designers Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Temperley London and Carmen Marc Valvo announced in December that they would forgo their usual 1,000-guest shows at fashion week in favor or smaller presentations.

Runway models shows at the Bryant Park tent typically cost upwards of $100,000. But Mr. Wilmot says Ms. Lhuillier and Mr. Khan didn’t change their plans because of the economy. He says he’s unsure whether either designer will spend less by staging a presentation instead of a runway show as it would depend on details such as the type of venue rented. He noted that there was the possibility of trimming costs at a presentation by cutting back on the the number of commercial models used (and therefore also spending less on hair and makeup) because the more informal format might allow each model to wear more than just one or two outfits.

“We just wanted to do something different, shake things up a little bit – it’ll sell the clothes differently,” he says, adding that the presentation format will allow press and retailers to chat with the designers and examine the clothing up close. “Before, there’s that one degree of separation — the press and the buyers get a different sense of the clothing when they’re flying past you on the runway as opposed to being able to stand next to them and having the fashion designer talk about the clothes.”

Mr. Wilmot says he isn’t worried about losing press coverage or retailers not stopping by – he notes that a presentation, which will last two hours and allow guests to drop in at any point, allows fashion week attendees to squeeze the event into their busy schedules. “It’s a much easier time slot to finagle,” he says.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson is featured in the new issue of Italian Vogue, and there is no doubt in anyone's mind that Hermione Granger has now blossomed into a beautiful young women model.

Photographed by Mark Seliger, the pictures show Watson clad in beautiful dresses as she makes her way through an opulent country mansion. And Watson apparently enjoyed every minutes of the model photography shoot.

"The Italian Vogue photo shoot was a fascinating experience. I was very excited to work with Vogue for the first time, but also to be given the chance to becoming a model couture," she explains. "Each dress was so special and important (because it is one of a kind), and we only had a short time to shoot each one before it had to go elsewhere to be worn or shot by someone else. This meant the shoot had a real momentum. And the jewellery to match each dress came with its own security guards".
